Chinglish

A while back I came across www.chinglish.de, some German in China who keeps track of the very creative translations he finds on his way. Just wanted to share this.

Less funny and a website owner with quite a special interest is www.sleepingchinese.com. If you feel bored might as well check that one out.

It has been in the news lately that Futurama will be back. I'm really happy with that since Futurama is absolutely one of my favourite series. The actual reason it made me blog about it is the following quote from the interview with David X. Cohen:

COHEN: Hypnotoad. By the way, we are looking into producing a full 22-minute episode of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad for the DVD release. I am serious.

Yeah. That is absolutely great. On a side note: we stopped naming our servers with funny names and renamed most of them to something useful (becomes crappy to tell them apart when you get too many) but hypnotoad sticked as our mail server. Definitely my favourite character from the show.

No more analog TV?

Every once in a while you read something on slashdot which makes you go "hmmm" (actually quite a lot).

Yesterday the Netherlands completely ended transmission of analog television signals, becoming the first country in the world to do so. So what about cars and portable TVs? I'm guessing a market will emerge for portable set top boxes / converters."

I'm quite sure that the TV in our shared livingroom is analog. It only has twelve channels and it looks like its a miracle it can display colours. I'm also absolutely positive it does not receive digital television. Nevertheless I'm quite happy that apparantly we are frontrunners again with something (the last few governments were conservative).

Besides that I didn't know cars needed analog TV signals. And portable TV's are really rare in the Netherlands as well so the guy who wrote that is smoking crack.
ps. o yeah ofcourse they mean that we don't broadcast analog signals into the air anymore. But most of the people here just receive analog tv on their cable. Now I will try to refrain myself from commenting on slashdot articles for a while. Btw: I'm Happy I don't own a TV anymore (terrible these days).
