My Brute, webgame done right
Browsing on my Friday night, I encountered the web game My Brute. Normally I only play such games for a few days. But still its quite fun.
What I like about this game is that its so easy to sign up, you don't even need a password if you don't want to. Nice and simple. Contagious. Graphics are quite good as well.

Chemical Brothers
I don't blog about music much, mostly because it does not take a big place in my life. Well I do listen to music everyday, so maybe I am exaggerating. But I just don't care much about the artists, genres, instruments and such.
But the Chemical Brothers is that one artist/group that can keep my attention and I think it is one of the few that doesn't have any songs I dislike. Thats quite impressive if you look at their discography. So I was quite pleased to see they released a new CD on 1st september 2008, Brotherhood. Unfortunately only two (Midnight Madness, Keep My Composure) new songs but nonetheless a good CD. I didn't hear the electronic battle weapons before, which are absolutely worthwhile.
In any case a recommendation. If you like them as well I would also like to note that hey have much more tracks then released on the albums, so looking a bit further can be rewarding. It is a shame I never experienced them live, they are supposed to be very good live. If they ever come nearby I should definitely go, else I'll feel guilty to myself if they stop performing in the future.
Movies
Lately we have been watching some movies for relaxation. I just wanted to say a few things about them:
- Cloverfield: Nice change with the blair witch style of camera work. Quite cool too but the ending just sucked (sequel?).
- Bee movie: Suck story in very disturbing reality.
- National Treasure 2: My excuse is that I didn't see 1. Avoid.
- No country for old men: Very cool, the high rating and good reviews are totally at place.
Movies to watch
There are many Asian movies that are really kick ass but only very few make it to The Netherlands, which is probably the same for most western countries. I recently read up about some movies coming up and decided to post the ones I intend to see.

The Bees
I'm not very active on the music front but I recently discoved a new band I like. I quite enjoy their album "Octopus", I would call it a cross between Daryll-Ann and the White stripes but thats how far my sense of music goes. I did the discovery because I read a review in NRC-Next a few weeks back where it said it was a very diverse album. It supposed to be like having your playlist on shuffle with random music, I don't know if I can agree with that but I like it.
Their website is also quite nice and allows you to embed a flash thingy on your site. Now normally I wouldn't do that but one of the video's is my favourite song from the album, so I tried. But it didn't work (I blame wordpress), but you can check it out anyway with this link.
A scanner darkly
On my spare Sunday night I decided to watch A Scanner Darkly. I had it laying around for a while because I didn't like the first few minutes when I checked it out earlier, but I decided to sit it out today. Although I really liked Waking Life which has the same filming style, its a totally different story. I didn't like A Scanner Darkly at all, its just about a bunch of people who are in a constant trip and suffering from psychosis. There is some plot but I think it got too little attention, too much centered around the crackheads. However the acting was quite good and I was surprised to see big shot actors in the movie like Keanu Reeves.
I can conclude that its a high quality production but that I just don't like the type of movie, all the characters cracked up, annoying as hell (especially that Barris guy) and mixed with lots of depressive drama. Doesn't make me enjoy a movie. Most annoying movie since I watched Crash. I'll stick with a comedy or a thriller next time.
Football
- I will not be suprised if world cup related bribing scandals pop up.
- Suprisingly most world cup related deaths happened in China. 11 out of 50 world wide.
- Hurray for the end of this world cup.
- My interest in football is still surprisingly low.

Opinion:
- I think that the dapper-commercial repository is quite cool. Ofcourse I prefer opensource happiness, but its a good thing that non-free stuff Just Works on Ubuntu as well.
Selwerd 3 Flatparty 2006: Manhattan vs. Chinatown
Everyday it starts at 21:00h. Traditionally a great party (once a year). If you want to come, its in Groningen (the Netherlands) at the Duindoornstraat. Just mail me if you need travel guidance.
The entrance fee is 1 euro, beer is 1 euro and its quite a special atmosphere (not comparable to your average party). I recommend it. There are three area's: one where the bands play, one where the DJ's play and last but not least a chillout zone, where you can get snacks, relax and you can play poker and stuff.
For the people who wonder why the hell I post this. Its in the same student residence as where I live (a flat with 300 people stuffed inside). Feel free to drop by and enjoy the party. 
Howl’s Moving Castle
Before I wasn't really in the mood but since I'm a bit down with a cold I finally decided to watch it. Really beautiful movie. The Howl's Moving Castle storyline beats most Disney storylines to pulp (Chronicles of Narnia storyline was pathetic). Besides that the graphics are absolutely stunning at some points. Normally I don't blog about movies I see but I was just impressed by this one. Really a good movie to end the holidays.
